Commemoration of Kristallnacht, Hamburg-Poppenbüttel, November 9, 2019

In 1945, after nearly five years in eight labor and concentration camps and the loss
of several family members, David Murlakov was liberated by the U.S. Army in
Austria. With a strong will to live, he built a new life for himself in several countries.
His energy and drive, as well as his connections to politicians and artists, set him
on the path to becoming a successful entrepreneur.

Even in his old age, he still had an excellent memory, and these ever-present
recollections prompted David Murlakov to record the experiences of his life. Not
least to draw attention, as a contemporary witness to his experiences during the
Holocaust, to this development and the resulting dangers in a time of rising anti
Semitism.

Now his eventful life, filled with extraordinary events—some difficult and life
threatening, but also dazzling and many beautiful ones—has come to an end. He
spent his final years back in Israel, though the last two years of the war took quite a
toll on him.

We are grateful to have been able to accompany him on his journey for a few years.
